Responsibilities:
- Organize and conduct fit sessions from first proto to TOP samples across multiple classifications.
- Collaborate with design and product development to maintain design intent while ensuring technical feasibility.
- Clearly communicate fit corrections and construction adjustments to overseas and domestic factories.
- Lead fittings with confidence, articulating rationale for changes to both internal and external partners.
- Evaluate and ensure garment fit, function, and quality standards are met consistently across all production stages.
- Anticipate potential fit or construction issues and proactively offer solutions before they impact the calendar.
- Monitor and assess all samples for workmanship, specs, and measurement accuracy.
- Supervise and mentor junior and mid-level technical designers.
- Set clear expectations for team members and manage workload across the department.
- Lead internal team meetings and create a collaborative, results-driven culture.
- Hold self and team accountable for meeting deadlines and product quality targets.
- Act as the key liaison between Technical Design, Design, Production, and Sourcing teams.
- Partner closely with private label customers, responding to their feedback and ensuring all product standards are met.
- Communicate effectively with overseas factories regarding fit comments, construction details, and timelines.
- Maintain an organized workflow and ensure the team is on track with all key development and production milestones.
- Oversee and manage the technical calendar to support on-time delivery.
- Ensure all tech packs, BOMs, and graded specs are accurate and submitted on schedule.
- Lead final inspection of TOP and bulk shipments to ensure alignment with pre-approved samples.
- Troubleshoot production issues and provide resolution in collaboration with the Production team.
- Review and refine specs to ensure consistency across similar silhouettes.
- Apply strong knowledge of patternmaking and grading when evaluating samples and communicating changes.
Requirements:
- 10+ years of experience in technical design within Contemporary and/or Missy’s apparel categories.
- Expert understanding of garment construction, patternmaking, fit, and grading.
- Prior experience in managing and mentoring a technical design team.
- Strong knowledge of both domestic and overseas manufacturing and communication with global vendors.
- Advanced proficiency in Adobe Illustrator, Photoshop, Excel, Word, and experience working within tech pack platforms or PLM systems.
- Highly organized with a meticulous attention to detail.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills with the ability to lead fit sessions and collaborate across departments.
- Ability to work under pressure and thrive in a fast-paced, deadline-driven environment.
- Experience with private label retail partnerships is a strong plus.
