Our client is a contemporary women's fashion brand based in Los Angeles.  We are recruiting for an Associate Technical Designer to join their team! Candidates should have at least 2-3 years of technical design experience running fittings within fashion. 

Job Title: Tech Design Associate
Position Summary:
The Tech Design Associate supports the technical design team in creating accurate and detailed technical specifications for apparel products. This role involves collaborating with designers, pattern makers, and production teams to ensure that designs are accurately translated into production ready garments. The Tech Design Associate will assist in fitting sessions, conduct garment measurements, and maintain comprehensive technical documentation.
Key Responsibilities:

• Tech Design and Specifications: Assist in creating detailed technical packages, including construction details, measurements, and technical sketches, ensure that all technical specifications are accurate and up to date, facilitating smooth communication between design and production teams, prepare and update tech packs in PLM (Product Lifecycle Management) or other relevant systems.

• Fitting and Sample Review: Participate in garment fitting sessions, taking notes and assisting in making necessary adjustments to patterns and specifications, measure samples and prototypes to ensure they meet the specified requirements and quality standards, provide feedback on fit, construction, and overall garment quality to the technical design team.

• Collaboration and Communication: Work closely with designers, pattern makers, and production teams to resolve any technical issues and ensure design intent is maintained, communicate clearly and effectively with suppliers and manufacturers to address technical questions and ensure production accuracy. Support the Senior Technical Designer or Technical Design Manager in managing timelines and meeting production deadlines.

• Documentation and Record Keeping: Maintain organized and comprehensive records of all technical specifications, fitting notes, and sample approvals, update and manage the technical design database, ensuring all information is readily accessible and accurate, assist in preparing reports and presentations for technical design reviews and meetings.

Qualifications:

• Education and Experience:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Fashion Design, Apparel Technology, or a related field.

  • Minimum of 1-3 years of experience in technical design or a related role in the fashion industry.

  • Familiarity with garment construction, pattern making, and fabric properties.

• Skills and Competencies:

  • Proficiency in technical design software, such as Adobe Illustrator, Gerber, or Optitex.

  • Strong knowledge of garment fitting, construction techniques, and technical specifications.

  • Excellent attention to detail and organizational skills.

  • Ability to work collaboratively in a team environment and communicate effectively with cross-functional teams.

  • Basic understanding of PLM systems and data management.
