Title: Design Director- Hosiery
Company Description: Global Apparel Brand
Location: New York, New York
Salary: $130,000-$180,000

Responsibilities:

  • Own the creative vision and design strategy for global children’s hosiery collections across multiple seasons
  • Lead, mentor, and develop a team of designers, providing clear direction, feedback, and growth opportunities
  • Oversee the full design lifecycle from concept through production, ensuring product meets brand standards, quality expectations, and margin targets
  • Drive innovation in yarns, techniques, constructions, graphics, and silhouettes specific to children’s hosiery
  • Partner closely with Merchandising, Product Development, Sourcing, and Production teams to align on assortments, pricing, and timelines
  • Ensure all designs meet children’s safety, compliance, and durability standards across global markets
  • Review and approve design concepts, color palettes, artwork, samples, and final production submissions
  • Stay deeply informed on market trends, competitive landscape, and consumer insights within both hosiery and childrenswear
  • Collaborate with brand leadership to align hosiery design direction with broader apparel collections

Requirements:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Fashion Design, Textile Design, or a related field
  • Minimum of 10+ years of design experience, with the majority of experience specifically in hosiery
  • Must be currently working in hosiery design at a recognized brand or manufacturer
  • Prior experience designing children’s apparel or accessories is a strong plus
  • Proven experience leading, managing, and scaling design teams
  • Expert-level knowledge of hosiery design, including yarns, gauges, knitting techniques, and construction
  • Strong understanding of children’s fit, comfort, wearability, and safety requirements
  • Ability to balance creativity with commercial and margin-driven decision-making
  • Strong leadership, communication, and cross-functional collaboration skills
  • Proficiency in Adobe Illustrator, Photoshop, and relevant design tools
  • Experience working with global partners and overseas factories
  • Strategic thinker with the ability to influence at a senior leadership level
